Rigby's Rescue - Giving the innocent a second chance

Welcome to Rigbys Rescue

Through no fault of their own tens of thousands of dogs are euthanased in pounds in Australia every year. Many of these dogs are suitable to be rehomed into loving human families but sadly are not given a chance. There are shelters that help some of these dogs to find good homes, however they are overburdened with the sheer volume of dogs that end up in the pounds.

Rigbys Rescue Inc. is an all volunteer organisation who dedicate their time, money and emotional energy into saving a small number of dogs each year that would have otherwise met their fate at the pound or in other undesirable situations. We aim to raise awareness about the pet overpopulation situation in Australia. We are also committed to promoting responsible pet ownership. This includes: education about the consequences of buying a dog from a pet shop; the importance of always desexing your dog; encouraging compliance with local and state animal ownership laws; and advice about choosing the right dog for you and/or your family.

Rigbys Rescue Inc. operates without making a profit and relies on kind donations from its members and the public. All members share the combined purpose of reducing the number of adoptable dogs euthanased in Australian pounds through means of education and hands-on rehoming of a small number of dogs. Rigbys Rescue Inc. operates in the greater Melbourne area and focuses on rescuing dogs from Victorian pounds.

If you are interested in adopting or have further questions, please contact us via the contact page to arrange a telephone discussion about your new dog. We do charge an adoption fee but this fee is dependent upon the costs involved with rescuing each individual dog. *Remember, we do not make a profit, so fees are in place to help towards the costs involved and they rarely (if ever) cover all costs incurred by Rigbys Rescue. To be able to adopt from Rigbys Rescue you must submit to a property inspection and a 14 day trial period. We aim to match each dog with the most suitable owner and these are ways in which we can work towards this important goal. These dogs have a second chance and we don't want them to end up back in the pounds or back on the unwanted list. A dog is a companion for life.
